After a remarkable string of success in the US, Silber Pro Cycling returned home to Quebec and defended its 2015 victory at a cold, wet, hardcore racer’s edition of the GP Cycliste de Saguenay.

Ben Perry won the opening stage in miserable weather conditions from a small break that at one time contained 5 riders from Silber. Perry went on to keep the yellow jersey until the final kms of the last stage, when a small group including the wily Ryan Roth went up the road. Roth would finish 2nd and the time gap allowed him to take the overall. Ben finished 2nd in GC and also won the Green and White jerseys. Aside from Ben’s win, the team was on the podium 3 times and had 5 riders finish in the top 10 GC:  Alex Cataford 5th, Matteo Dal-Cin 6th and Nicolas Masbourian 10th. Complete results here.

Here are 4 things to soak in from Saguenay:

  1. Roth is on a roll, with his recent win at Winston Salem and now the overall at the GP de Saguenay.
  2. Perry is a rider to watch. The two-time defending U23 National Champ notched his second career win on the America Tour. He won the KOM at the Tour of Alberta in 2015 and oh, he’s still U23.
  3. Silber Pro Cycling is thick with next-level talent and has the ability to develop riders: Dal-Cin, Ellsay, Cataford and Perry… with the leadership of Roth and directing savvy of Gord Fraser. Take note: Nicolas Masbourian is a U23  rider on the rise.
  4. Silber Pro Cycling is now the top-ranked team on the UCI America Tour

Having professional staff and the right equipment helps breed success in tough race conditions. We have to give a bowl-of-hot-soup-thanks to our soigneur, Delphine Leray and mechanic, Doug Berner, for all their extra work in the cold. Giordana’s G-Shield line was a huge advantage in the rain, as were our high-ranked, grippy Zipp Tangente tubulars.

Next up: Tour de Beauce, June 15-19.

We started our first season as a UCI continental team in 2014. It's been a whirlwind ride and we couldn't have done it without the support of our great partners.
