Last year Ryan Roth won the Global Relay Gastown GP. What a blast. This year Kris Dahl finished a respectable 5th but it was not the result we were looking for. Nonetheless, Gastown was a gas!

Gastown is what a well-run downtown criterium is all about: it’s a jumbling event that bring together organizers, volunteers, police, security, event management companies, city officials, local business owners, crews of people putting up and taking down fences, stages, parking areas, registration tables and tents… there’s media, photographers, fans, passers-by, people pissed at the crowd as they try to get to work, people shopping, eating, yelling… there are riders, staff, management, sponsors, vehicles all over the place, trainers with riders warming up, empty trainers just sitting there, coolers of every beverage you can imagine, portable washrooms, cables and dogs running under your feet, announcers bellowing… It’s like a circus without huge animals, so we asked photographer Oran Kelly to capture the scene that takes place around the race. We wanted to capture the race, but also all the bustle around it. Let’s call it #racinglife and we love it. Hope you do too!
